Sakurajima volcano (Kyushu, Japan): weekly volcanic activity report 2-6 Apr 2020 Notícia OVGA 08-04-2020

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported during 2-6 Apr 2020 15 explosions that occured at the Minamidake summit crater.

Blocks were ejected as far as 1,968 ft-2,952 ft (600 m-900 m) away from Minamidake summit crater. Ash plumes reached 12,460 ft (3,800 m) altitude.

Incandescence continues to be observed from the crater.

The seismic station records 35 volcanic earthquakes and 23 tremors associated with the eruption. The inclinometer and extensometer indicate that the volcano is uplifted and expanded. There is a slight fluctuation.
The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the craters.

No Observatório Vulcanológico e Geotérmico dos Açores (OVGA) podem ser observadas amostras de cinzas do Vulcão Sakurajima. Estas amostras foram recolhidas numa expedição científica realizada nos anos 90.
