Sakurajima volcano (Kyushu, Japan): vigorous eruption yesterday - Notícia OVGA 20-05-2020

Vulcanian activity continues from the summit crater after powerful eruptions that occurred last week.

On 17 May at 18:54 local time a strong explosion at the volcano generated a dense dark ash plume, which rose approx. 3,280 ft (1,000 m) above the summit and drifted E.

Near-constant glow is visible from the summit crater 32 volcano-tectonic earthquakes were detected by the seismic network.

The warning bulletin states that ballistic impacts of volcanic bombs and pyroclastic flows could affect an area of about 2 km distance from the main crater.
